What is Suede Fabric? Suede fabric is a type leather. It can be made from any kind of animal skin used in normal leather production. The main difference between suede fabric and other types is that it is derived from animal skin's underside, while most leather is derived from animal skin's top.
Although the underside of animal skin can be more soft than the exterior, it is less resilient to the elements and stains. Suede is often considered a luxury product. Although it has less durability than the outside, it is more permeable and can withstand the elements and stains. Suede garments are best worn indoors and in conditions where adverse environmental conditions are unlikely. However, suede can also be made from other types of skin such as goat, calf and deer.
Textile manufacturers have tried to develop synthetic suede alternatives in an effort to minimize the impact on leather-producing animal and to counter the negative aspects of suede. Although it is impossible to replicate suede's desirable qualities, synthetic alternatives can be cheaper or more durable than the real thing.
